Shorunmu, Giwa join Ikorodu

Idris Adesina  Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu, and  ex-Julius Berger defender, Shakiru Giwa, have joined Premier League side, Ikorodu United. Shorunmu was engaged as the Lagos  side’s  goalkeeping coach  while Giwa joined as an  assistant coach for the rest of the season.I korodu, who are struggling in the league, had recently appointed Theodorus Jacob de Jong as their head coach in place of former Warri Wolves coach, Sam Okpodu. The  club said in a statement on Wednesday  that the three new officials  would be on duty during Sunday’s Lagos derby between MFM and Ikorodu at  Agege Stadium. Champions league: Enyimba lose again

Idris Adesina Enyimba have lost their second match of the group stages of the CAF Champions League after they were beaten 2-1 by Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday. The match, which was played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Pretoria, was the second consecutive loss for Enyimba in Group B after their 1-0 loss to Zamalek on the opening day of the group matches. The Nigeria champions are now walking the tightrope to qualification from the three-team group as they sit third with no point from two matches. N750m fraud: Benue gov okays EFCC’s arrest of Speaker, other

Benue State Governor, Samuel Otorm Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, on Thursday lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for arresting and investigating the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Terkimbir Ikyange, and three principal officers of the assembly. Ortom spoke with State House correspondents shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The principal officers of the assembly were invited to Abuja on Tuesday over alleged misappropriation of N750m meant for the purchase of cars for members. Former National Publicity Secretary, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh Olusola Fabiyi, Abuja A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, has said he’s in support of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war. Court fixes September 27 for Orji Kalu, others’ arraignment

Ade Adesomoju, Abuja A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered that a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, and his co-accused would on September 27, be arraigned on the charges of money laundering involving alleged diversion of about N3.2bn belonging to the state preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Justice Anwuri Chikere fixed the date for arraignment after rejecting a defence counsel’s application to defer it till when the Supreme Court would deliver its judgment on a pending appeal challenging the validity of the charges. The EFCC had, in 2007, preferred the charges against Kalu alongside Jones Udeogo, and the former governor’s company, Slok Nigeria Limited. In the amended charges of 34 counts, the accused were said to have diverted a cumulative sum of N3.2bn from the Abia State Government’s treasury while Kalu was the governor of the state. Members of staff of the company were ordered out of the office located at Globe House, Plot 0-17B, Road 8, Victoria Garden City, Lagos. The FIRS enforcement unit, led by Anita Erinne, also sealed Meditarian Nigeria Limited at 243, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, which has a tax debt of over N4bn from 2008 to 2013, according to a statement by the agency . An official of the company, one Mr. Raja, said he was not aware of the debt and called on one Mr. Kola to attend to the FIRS team. Kola admitted that the firm owed the amount and pleaded for time to pay it. “We have been in discussions with your office in Abuja over the matter,” he said. A High Court sitting in Abia State has asked all judiciary officers, including the Chief Judge and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state not to swear in Uche Oga as governor of Abia State.
