League Two news: Leyton Orient appoint Andy Hessenthaler as manager on one-year deal

Andy Hessenthaler has been confirmed as Leyton Orient's new permanent manager.

Hessenthaler had been in charge of first-team affairs for the last five games of the season on an interim basis after Kevin Nolan stepped down as player-manager in April.

The former Dover Athletic boss will be the O's sixth manager since Russell Slade left for Cardiff during the earlier part of the 2014/2015 season.

A statement on the club's website said: "The club are confident they have the right man for the job and believe Andy's expertise, spirit and passion made him the stand-out candidate for the position."

Hessenthaler took Gillingham to the League Two play-offs in 2012 in his second spell in charge, whilst guiding them to the Championship in his first stint, something Orient will hope he can replicate.

He has signed a one-year deal with the option of an extension.

Abesan Cup enters s’final stage

Last year’s finalists Rozie FC of Aboru will battle Crystal of Ijeshatedo in one of the semi-final matches of the Abesan Cup at the Keda pitch in Ipaja, Lagos, on Saturday, as they aim to emerge champions of the highly-rated grassroots football competition. IYC begs Buhari to act on his appeals to end militancy

OVIE OKPARE, WARRI The umbrella body for Ijaw youths, Ijaw Youth Council has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to act on his appeals to Niger Delta militants to halt hostilities by personally kick-starting the dialogue process with stakeholders in the region. A statement signed by the spokesman for the group, Eric Omare, on Sunday, stressed that only a genuine and serious engagement with Niger Delta people would address the recurring agitation from the people.
