Poor funding crippling our activities, school cries out

Jesuit Memorial College in Rivers State, the institution that was built in memory of the over 60 students of Loyola Jesuit College that died in 2005 Sosoliso plane crash, has cried out for lack of fund in the running of the school.
The school said that poor funding was crippling the activities and development of the college.
The management of the school, who spoke with Southern City News, stated that the school was short of fund for further development of the institution.
President of JMC, Fr. Emeka Asogwa, appealed to the public for funding, adding the school was lacking facilities for learning.
Asogwa noted that the management had spent over N2 billion in the development of the institution, adding that more money was still needed to put the place in a proper learning condition.
He said that the school had no science laboratory, library, and other learning facilities, adding that the institution was struggling.
“We therefore appeal to the government, corporate and good people of Nigeria that JMC should not be allowed to suffer from lack of adequate facilities that will hamper the achievement of the vision the Jesuits have set for the school.
“It has been difficult to get the government and donors on board. We recently completed the Phase One of the JMC project with the construction of another classroom building.
“But owing to the fiscal constraints, work has only begun on the phase two which include, boys dormitory, Jesuit residence, sisters’ residence, chapel, clinic, science and arts laboratories, sport complex and library.
“The circumstance that gave birth to JMC requires collaborative effort and support of parents, spirited individuals, the government and business organisations for urgent financial help.”
Similarly, the Principal of the college, Mr. Osaretin Jonah, added that learning had been difficult in the school, stressing that there were no facilities to be used for the learning process.
Jonah called on the government to help in raising fund for the memorial college in order to make the place befitting for learning
