UPDATED;Buhari Appoint AIG Idris Acting IGP

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday appointed an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, as the acting Inspector-General of Police.
The appointment was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
Idris succeeds Arase who proceeds on retirement at the attainment of 60 years.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, as the Acting Inspector-General of Police,” the statement read.
According to the statement, Idris, who hails from Kutigi, Lavun in Niger State, was born on 15th of January 1959, and was enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1984, after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a Bachelors degree in Agriculture.
He also holds a degree in Law from the University of Maiduguri.
Idris has served in various commands and formations in the Nigerian Police Force, working in the Police Mobile Force for 17years as Unit Commander, Squadron Commander, and Commandant.
He served as Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa and Kano States and was also the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters.
He was also at the United Nations Mission in Liberia and East Timor and was awarded “Medal of Merit” by the President of the Republic of East Timor in recognition of his service.
Idris, who was in charge of Operations at the Force Headquarters before his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, will act in that capacity pending his confirmation.

Arase introduces acting IGP

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has introduced his successor, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to State House correspondents.
Arase spoke shortly after he led Idris to meet President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said Idris’ appointment would be in acting capacity until he is confirmed by the Council of State.
Idris on his part promised to build on the legacy left behind by Arase.

Arepo: IG deploys policemen, helicopter to flush out vandals

Adelani Adepegba The acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has deployed the Tactical Operation Unit, comprising of the Police Mobile Force, the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Air Surveillance Team to flush out vandals and other criminal elements operating in Arepo and Ibafo areas of Ogun State. Idris said the deployment of the unit in the areas on Thursday was to ensure that normalcy returns to them in record time. A statement on Friday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, quoted the IG as saying that the Nigeria Police Force would not watch any criminal group(s) take law into their hands, adding that he had authorised the team to deal decisively with anyone who constitutes himself as an enemy of the state. He also asked residents of the areas who had fled to return home and go about their normal businesses as the police would deal with the criminals.
