Stop begging for dialogue, Avengers tell N’Delta elders

Niger Delta Avengers Ovie Okpare, Warri The Niger Delta Avengers on Sunday warned the Niger Delta elders to desist from appealing to the group to accept the proposed dialogue by the Federal Government, noting that President Muhammadu Buhari is insincere and therefore should not be trusted. The NDA also dared the Nigerian military to a combat in the creeks which they claimed remained their ‘hideout’, if the security agencies in the country were ready to arrest members of the group. The insurgents, in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesman, Agbinibo Mudoch, denied all those said to have been arrested by the military in the manhunt for its members, especially those said to have been arrested by the Nigerian Navy last week. The Nigerian Navy on Saturday in Warri, Delta State, paraded two suspected members of the dreaded militant group, who confessed to being behind a series of attacks on Chevron facilities between May and July this year. My support for Buhari personal, Tinubu tells Abayomi

Tinubu, Buhari Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has berated a governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Mr. Tunji Abayomi, for the open letter Abayomi addressed to him last week. Tinubu also said his support for the election of President Muhammadu Buhari before and after the 2015 polls was his personal decision. Tinubu said, in a statement by his media office on Sunday, that as a member of the APC, he had the right to support any governorship aspirant. Abayomi had, in a letter titled, ‘The tonic of democracy is the right of the people to choose their leaders’, accused Tinubu of attempting to impose a candidate on the other aspirants in the state. The letter came amid allegations that the APC national leader had asked all the aspirants to step down for Mr. Segun Abraham. However, Tinubu said Abayomi erred by making spurious allegations. He said, “You said I seek to deny your democratic right.

Diseases you didn’t know that mosquitoes give

Solaade Ayo-Aderele Ask any adult the type of diseases that mosquitoes give, and malaria fever is likely to be the answer. While this is true, the awful fact is that mosquito bites transmit more than malaria, because the disease that a particular mosquito carries depends on the mosquito type. So, what kinds of diseases are mosquitoes capable of inflicting on their victims? These ones… West Nile fever West Nile fever is a mosquito-borne infection by the West Nile virus. As bad as this fever is, experts say, approximately 80 percent of the infections in humans have few or no symptoms. Experts however warn that “serious problems can include infection of the brain (encephalitis), spinal cord, and tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord (meningitis), which can be fatal.” Most cases of WNV are not serious and many people have no symptoms or they may only manifest mild flu-like symptoms, such as headaches, muscle aches and a high temperature (fever). Charly Boy Tells Pastor Adeboye To Write His Own Bible For His Congregation

Popular socialite Charly Boy has responded to comments made by Pastor E.A. Adeboye regarding marriage. Speaking to his congregation, Adeboye had told the man not to marry women who couldn’t cook or pray for an hour, and told women not to marry a man who didn’t a job. In response, Charly Boy wrote: “For the past few days, Pastor Adeboye’s advice to youths on marriage has been trending all over the place. The “good pastor” yarns tell me that he is a man suspended in time, between old and new school. “Don’t get it twisted; in as much as I flow with his definition of a good woman, from his statement I see that the obvious way to his heart is through his stomach and of cause through prayers. Good, No wahala! “However our amiable Pastor rubs it in when he starts to yarn Akpata, “Marry a warrior, if a girl cannot pray for one hour, don’t marry her. Don’t marry a girl who is lazy, who cannot cook. She needs to know how to do chores and cook because you cannot afford to ea

Ranieri: Leicester Will Not Be Like Chelsea

Leicester City manager, Claudio Ranieri is insisting his men will not collapse like Chelsea did, following their EPL win. The blues won the EPL in the 2014-15 season, but an underwhelming 2015/16 season, saw them finish 10th on the table. Chelsea recorded only 12 wins out of 38 games in the league, with Jose Mourinho getting sacked. Despite their fairytale triumph last season, Leicester has once again been written off, but Ranieri insists they’ll turn up. “When I build something, it is never destroyed,” the 64-year-old told reporters ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield against Manchester United at Wembley. “My philosophy is to watch your house, not other houses. It’s important what happens here. My house is very clean and very clear. “Slowly, we try to build the first floor and the second floor. The foundation is very solid. “I don’t know what happened [to Chelsea]. They were the champions. “I spoke with my players and I said: ‘I know you very well now and I want mor

13 die in bar fire

At least 13 people were killed and six injured in an accidental fire early Saturday during a birthday party at a bar in the northern French city of Rouen, officials said. The blaze, which was France’s deadliest in a decade, was sparked by the candles of a birthday cake. They appear to have ignited the polystyrene ceiling of the basement room where the celebrations were taking place. The victims, who were primarily between the ages of 18-25, were poisoned by a toxic mix of gases released by the burning plastic. One of the injured was still fighting for their life. “There wasn’t an explosion, it was candles used for a birthday party,” a senior police official told AFP. Local official Laurent Labadie, who was at the scene of the fire, described the blaze as accidental. The blaze started at around midnight at the Cuba Libre bar in the city centre, and the firemen were at the scene by 00:20 am (2220 GMT Friday). Its burnt facade and broken front windows were protect

He said, “Contractors have been mobilised to site and I get all of the complaints. I must express my sympathy for those who, unfortunately, I think were victims of some criminal elements on the bridge. I have asked the office of the National Security Adviser to assist in deploying security personnel in the section of the Long Bridge. “We can’t use the bridge while work is going on and expect that things will be normal. There will be some inconveniences. The ideal thing will be to shut it down. But we can’t do that also.

Italy says 8,300 migrants rescued in five days

ROME: Some 1,800 migrants were rescued from waters off Libya Monday, lifting the total picked up to 8,300 over five days, according to the Italian coastguard which coordinated the operations. Vessels from the coastguard, the Italian navy, humanitarian organisations and EU anti-trafficking operation Sophia were involved in 16 operations to save people from 14 inflatable dinghies and two small wooden boats. The latest rescues will lift to over 94,000 the number of migrants brought to Italian ports this year, roughly in line with the pattern of 2015, according to Flavio Di Giacomo, a spokesman for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The number of migrants trying to reach Europe via the Greek islands has dropped sharply since an EU-Turkey deal designed to stem the flow was agreed in March. Numbers on that route are running at dozens per day rather than the thousands per day seen this time last year. More than 3,000 migrants have died at sea while trying
