A 94-year-old man was knocked down and killed by a rampaging sheep in southwest France, police said on Tuesday. The elderly man “was charged at by the animal” which launched a frenzied attack on him on a farm in the town of Cestas, south of Bordeaux, police said. The man was found dead, with a swollen and badly bruised face. Investigators believe the sheep knocked the man off balance, causing him to fall, and then trampled on him, inflicting more injuries. Shortly afterwards, the sheep also charged at, and injured a local politician, who rushed to the scene after hearing the news of the attack. The female councillor suffered a fracture and heavy bruising. The police said it could see no other reason for the attack than “the animal’s aggression”. The Sud Ouest newspaper reported that the sheep will be put down.

Gabriel Akindele Samuel Awoyinfa, Abeokuta The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Gabriel Akindele, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl, who is deaf and dumb. The incident was said to have happened on Tuesday on Michael Ayegusi Street, Owode Ijako, in the Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint from the mother of the victim. He said, “The mother, who noticed an unusual behaviour from the girl after the incident, used sign language to inquire from her daughter. “The girl informed her of the incident, which prompted the mother to report the matter to the police.” Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said  after a complaint was made about the matter, the Divisional Police Officer, Sango Ota, Akinsola Ogunwale, detailed detectives to the scene; and the old man was subsequently arrested. The new Special Court of Appeal Panel constituted to resolve all appeals in the Ondo State PDP governorship candidacy dispute has fixed Thursday for ruling on preliminary motions brought before it. Justice Ibrahim Salauwa, leading the three-member panel, on Tuesday fixed the date after counsel to parties had argued their applications. Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, Sen. Ben Obi, Biyi Poroyo, Eyitayo Jegede, and Jimoh Ibrahim are all parties in the matter. The executive of PDP South West Zone and Ondo State executive members of the party are also interested parties. The new panel had succeeded the Justice Hannatu Sankey’s panel which disqualified itself on November 2 following accusation of fraud against the members.
